Bleak Beach: the complete area guide 🏄
Published 6/21/2026
Bleak Beach is the second area you unlock in Pokopia. Dark, damp, and cut off from power, your job is to restore electricity and bring light back to the coast. Here is everything that happens and what you will walk away with.
How to get there
Complete the story quests in Withered Wasteland and reach Trainer Rank: Great. Follow Professor Tangrowth to the green gate on the eastern side of Withered Wasteland. That gate leads into Bleak Beach.
What the area is about
Bleak Beach is a coastal region where the electricity has failed and the whole area has gone dark. The main quest is called Brighten Things Up! and it runs through the entire area. Your goal is to restore power by setting up windmills, furnaces, water wheels, and utility poles, then light up five charging stations to reach 100 Bloom Points.
Early story: fixing the Pokémon Center
When you first arrive, the Pokémon Center is flooded. Your first task is to block the water gaps and get it back up and running. After that you will meet Meowth, whose house is nearby. Help him out and start building habitats to bring the first residents to the beach.
Piplup and Water Gun
Once you have settled into the area, you will meet Piplup. It will give you the side request Let's Swim Together! Follow Piplup to the muddy patch near Meowth's house. Piplup uses Water Gun to clear the mud, opening up paths that were blocked.
After cleaning the area, speak to Meowth to finish the request.
Lapras and Surf
Build a Tropical Seaside habitat and Lapras will move in. Speak to Lapras once it arrives and it will teach Ditto the Surf transformation. Surf lets you swim freely on the water, which opens up parts of Bleak Beach and beyond that you could not reach before.
Peakychu
Peakychu is a Bleak Beach exclusive. She does not appear freely in the area. You have to reach a specific story moment where Meowth spots someone lying on the ground. Follow that cue and a cutscene will introduce Peakychu.
After meeting her, Peakychu will lead you to a windmill on the ocean. She becomes your guide through the electricity restoration work that follows.
To recruit Peakychu permanently, build her a Full Recovery habitat:
- 1 bed (any type)
- 1 plain chest
- 1 first aid kit
Peakychu has the Illuminate specialty and helps light up buildings on your island.
Finishing the area
Connect the power grid across Bleak Beach by placing furnaces, water wheels, and windmills and linking them through utility poles. Light up all five charging stations to reach 100 Bloom Points. When you do, Raikou appears and wakes up Mosslax, completing the main quest.
The northern gate to Rocky Ridges opens once the area is finished.
What you unlock in Bleak Beach
- Water Gun via Piplup
- Surf via Lapras (lets you swim on water)
- Peakychu (Illuminate specialty)
- Access to Rocky Ridges
