Palette Town: the complete area guide
Published 6/21/2026
Palette Town is unlike every other area in Pokopia. There is no story, no rank gate, and no quests to follow. It is a blank canvas for free building and the only place to find Eevee, all eight Eeveelutions, and over 25 Pokémon you cannot catch anywhere else.
How to unlock Palette Town
You can reach Palette Town early in the game without completing all story areas first.
Start by befriending Hitmonchan and building it a habitat. Hitmonchan teaches Ditto Rock Smash, which you need to break through rock piles.
Once you have Rock Smash, travel west from the Pokémon Center in Withered Wasteland. Smash the rock pile blocking the path. You will reach a gap over the sea — bring blocks from your inventory and build a bridge across it.
On the other side, boot up the Palette Town PC. This triggers a cutscene, lets you rename the town, and introduces Eevee.

What Palette Town is
Palette Town is the only area in Pokopia not connected to the story. There are no required quests and no Trainer Rank gate. It is a free-form sandbox where you can build, terraform, and place structures block by block however you want.
It is also the home of a large number of Pokémon that do not appear anywhere else in the game.
Eevee and the Eeveelutions
When you boot up the PC, Eevee greets you and explains that its eight friends are scattered across Palette Town. Your goal is to build the right habitats to attract each one.
All nine members of the Eevee family are exclusive to Palette Town. To recruit each Eeveelution you need a specific habitat that uses a special food item. Those items are not available from the start. You unlock them through Special Challenges tasks you receive in Palette Town that reward you with the ingredients you need.
A few examples:
- Flareon: Burning-hot Spice habitat, requires Pizza with hot sauce (reward from the Build Lots of Stuff! Special Challenge)
- Espeon: Elegant Daytime Treats habitat, requires Afternoon Tea Set (reward from the Get a Pokémon Housemate Special Challenge)
- Umbreon: only visits at night
Work through the Special Challenges and you will gradually unlock the food items needed to attract each one.

Other exclusive Pokémon
Palette Town has over 25 Pokémon that cannot be found in any story area. A few highlights:
- Snorlax and Munchlax: available through specific habitats in Palette Town
- Weezing and Koffing: build a Trash Collection Site or Good Old-fashioned Antiques habitat
- Pikachu: found here too, not in the story areas
- The three Kanto Legendary Birds: attracted using special habitat kits
Open the Area Exclusives page in the Pokédex section of Pokopia Companion for the full list of Pokémon that are only available here, with the habitat each one needs.
GameShare
The Palette Town PC also unlocks GameShare, which lets another player join your island for free using a second console without owning the game. GameShare can only be set up from Palette Town.
Tracking your builds in Pokopia Companion
Palette Town involves a lot of habitat building across many different Pokémon. Add each habitat to your Build Queue as you work toward it. The Shopping List will combine all the materials you need so you can gather efficiently instead of checking each habitat one by one.
